DMS Designs is a cottage industry located on the coast of southern Maine. The individually designed switchplates are crafted with a combination of handmade paper, beads, stones, sea glass & seashells from the beaches of Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, Maine.

Each hand designed switchplate from the DMS Designs studio is signed and placed in a lovely gift box for giving.

I often work with clients to create custom designs that reflect their personal style and decor. Clients sometimes send photos or actual tiles, paint or fabric swatches as guides -- or I may meet with a client in person to help fine tune their specific needs. Creating custom switchplates is a very collaborative effort marrying my customers' visions with my creative resources. I work with over 300 different handmade papers from all over the world, incorporating design additions such as real sea glass and seashells, in keeping with an oceanic theme. The samples found on my website are but a small representation of the design possibilities. Custom switchplates are the ultimate finishing touch to any room -- and I love working with clients to make something that is uniquely theirs

1. Are the switchplates water proof? Each switchplate is sealed with 2 coats of a water resistant finish and can be cleaned with a damp cloth.

2. Will the sea glass, shells and/or stones come off? A super strong adhesive is used to secure the sea glass, shells and stones to each switchplate. If they do come off under normal wear and tear, just send it back to us we will replace or fix free of charge.

3. Do you do custom orders? We gladly work with you and your personal style to create one of kind switchplates for your home decor.

4. Do you have a store? Not at this time, but the plates can be purchased at the following stores .

Walking the beach, collecting sea shells and sea glass has become a lifelong passion for me, the roots of which were founded in the many hours of my childhood walking the beaches of Cape Cod looking for interesting "treasures". The shells were easy to come by,but sea glass was a rare find. The distinctive shape and color of each piece, wondering about its origin and how far it had traveled to land on the beach always intrigued me.

Another fascination of mine has been with handmade paper. Even though I never perfected the art of making it, I do appreciate the unique texture, color and fibrous nature of each piece. I scout out papers from all over the world at various paper and import stores around New England to add to my collection and to use in my creations.

Now, as an adult living on the coast of Maine, I have combined these two passions to form my own business creating and designing light switchplates. I find great pleasure and satisfaction in working on my designs and am eager to share these unique products with my customers.
